Cuts Watch #49: Economic development cut in Hull

10 Jun 2010, by in Cuts Watch

Hull Forward, the economic development company for Hull, is closing down as a result of spending cuts. 34 staff at the organisation face redundancy. In a statement the agency said:

Yorkshire Forward and the Homes and Communities Agency have reluctantly confirmed that there will be no funding towards the running of Hull Forward beyond 30 September following significant public sector funding cuts across the country”

Hull Forward report that multiple physical regeneration projects would not have happened without their work. Over the last financial year the agency reportedly helped to create or safeguarded nearly 1,000 jobs and was involved in securing £2.6m of grants to create 400 new jobs over the next two years.
