Following last week’s negative publicity on funding cuts for free school meals, The Department for Education has issued a press release setting out exactly how planned extensions will be cut.
- Local pilots of free school meals will not go ahead in Islington, Bradford, Nottingham, Cumbria and Medway.
- Free school meals will not be extended to maintained nursery and Key Stage 1 pupils whose parents are on Working Tax Credit, with household incomes up to £16,190.
- In addition, plans to extend free school meals to older pupils whose parents are on low incomes will no longer go ahead.
A DfE spokesperson described these cuts as ‘savings’.
