Cuts Watch #160: Capital funding for nurseries and childminders

The Department for Education has reportedly told local authorities not to provide any further funding to nurseries and childminders that have applied for capital funding to imrove their buildings, outdoor areas, ICT and facilities for disabled children. The three year improvement scheme was due to end in March 2011, but it is now suspected that funding will be withdrawn early. The DfE told Nursery World that while Sure Start revenue funding had been protected in 2010-11, capital expenditure from the Sure Start Early Years and Childcare Grant was not.
