Cuts Watch #172: Services for Young People in Sheffield

04 Aug 2010, by in Cuts Watch

Sheffield Futures, which runs the Sheffield Connexions service, is preparing to cut 95 of its 370 jobs after the local authority cut its funding by a quarter. The Council has also cut £153,000 from its Positive Activities for Young People fund. This fits in with the emerging pattern of heavy cuts in youth services; Deirdre Hughes, the President of the Institute for Careers guidance, has noted that there will be parts of the country with no careers guidance coverage by September and suggested that the Coalition has no plans to fill the gaps.
