Cuts Watch #194: Playgrounds

11 Aug 2010, by in Cuts Watch

One week after Play Day, Michael Gove has frozen the Playbuilder scheme. (Last month Nicola reported rumours that this was going to happen.)

Playbuilder provided funding to 122 councils to build and maintain up to 3,500 community playgrounds. Each local authority was given £1.1 million to build 22 play areas as part of the Every Child Matters strategy. This was the last of a planned three years of delivery, with 1207 due to be built.
