Cuts Watch #215: Youth Justice Board

23 Aug 2010, by in Cuts Watch

Community Care are reporting that the Youth Justice Board (YJB) is to be axed. A source has told Community Care that officials believe the YJB “does not conform to the criteria ministers are being asked to look at when reviewing their quangos”. The source also said ministers were considering how to make councils more responsible for youth justice, adding that the future of it would look “less centralised, more local”.

The Youth Justice Board oversees the youth justice system in England and Wales, supporting youth justice services to learn from best practice and quality assuring services including resettlement and secure accommodation for young people in custody. The YJB also runs many grant programmes, funding a range of crime prevention programmes.
