Cuts Watch #227: More children’s services cuts

07 Sep 2010, by in Cuts Watch

Barnet and Leicester are the latest areas to report cuts to children’s services as a result of in-year spending reductions. Children and Young People Now report that Barnet is proposing to cut its children’s services budget by up to 50 per cent. In Leicester, services for children with special educational needs and behaviour problems are being cut – with teachers expressing concern that a £50k cut to educational psychology services will have significant negative impacts for children.

Young people participating in the UK’s Youth Parliament recently met to discuss funding cuts – members were already feeling the impacts of cuts, citing examples of reduced careers advice services and cuts in grants for youth services for disabled young people.
