The Fire Brigades Union has warned that the fire service in Scotland has been making cuts since 2006 and any further loss off funding will threaten the lives of fire officers and members of the public. There are currently 3466 full-time fire fighters in Scotland, compared with 4600 in 2006; in the same period the number of retained firefighters has also fallen, by 322. FBU Scotland argues that it is important that the service continues to have the resources needed to carry out risk based fire cover plans.
