Edinburgh City Council has begun a 30 day consultation on the future of its subsidy for Blindcraft, a sheltered factory making beds. 63 per cent of the 70 workers at Blindcraft are blind or disabled; the Council currently provides a £1.1m subsidy, which it wants to cut by £700,000.Unite, UNISON and Community have all condemned the closure plans and Hannah Lister, a student, has set up a Facebook campaign and internet petition to express the concerns of the local community.
