Earlier today the Chancellor announced that people ‘with disabilities to cope with‘ would not be affected by the new benefits cap. But now it turns out (as has been announced on the Treasury’s, not the DWP’s, website)that disabled people claiming Employment and Support Allowance and Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit will be subject to the cap. These benefits are only paid to people who are ill or disabled – the claim that people in these groups will not be affected by the benefit cap turns out, at best, be an error in the Chancellor’s analysis.
