Protests against the cuts: Ireland, Italy and Portugal

28 Nov 2010, by in International

Protests about austerity measures have taken place this weekend in Dublin and Rome, and on Tuesday Portugal saw the first unified union General Strike since 1988. The demonstrations in Dublin (organised by the ICTU) and in Rome (by the CGIL) both numbered well over 100,000. You can see a video of the ICTU Rally in Dublin and several videos from the CGIL rally in Rome, including the speech of the new General Secretary, CGIL’s first woman leader Susanna Camusso and images of the rally to a rousing version of the WW2 left wing resistance song Bella Ciao.
