  • Archbishop Rowan Williams says he is concerned that the government is giving civil society organisations a bigger role in running public services because it is “washing its hands” of its responsibilities.<br />
    And the The Bishop of Leicester told the House of Lords:<br />
    “We do not create a fair society – let alone a ‘Big Society’ – by placing some of our fellow citizens beyond the reach of social solidarity.”
  • Areas that haven't succeeded in putting together a bid to form a Local Enterprise Partnership won't get any of the funding being put aside for inward investment – no matter how poor or in need of investment they may be.
  • Business minister Mark Prisk confirms that local enterprise partnerships – the coalition's replacement for regional development authorities – will not inherit all the RDAs' assets; deficit reduction will have a higher priority.
