Today’s employment figures

11 Sep 2013, by in Labour market

I have a post up at Left Foot Forward, looking at today’s employment figures. The employment level may be up, but that is entirely due to large increases in the number of over 65s in employment. The employment rate is hardly budging, youth unemployment and long-term unemployment have risen ad employment in the NHS and other health services is falling. And at the same time, underemployment  is a continuing disgrace and wages still lag inflation. There isn’t really a lot to be happy about.
