Interesting report on public sector pensions
Moral Outrage and Questionable Polarities: The Attack on Public Sector Pensions by Tony Cutler and Barbara Waine of the Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change (CRESC) deserves more than a link of the day.
While the paper goes through some of the arguments about public sector pensions with which readers of this blog will familiar, it is more interested in how the issue has become important in debate and teasing out the assumptions on which the attacks are built.
In particular it questions the assumptions behind the idea that the private and public sectors are two separate pensions worlds with their own uniform behaviour.
This puts our arguments into an interesting new perspective – and it has some interesting new material (at least to me) on boardroom pensions and job tenure in senior jobs in both public and private jobs.
