Cuts Watch #36: Most deprived areas face largest local authority grant cuts
John Denham MP has highlighted that by retaining the general grant received by local authorities, and cutting additional area grants by £1.165 billion, local areas with higher levels of deprivation (who are more likely to be in reciept of additional funds) will be hardest hit.
The South Yorkshire Star report that:
“Unprotected grants include money to tackle entrenched unemployment and youth crime, additional support for two-year-olds, support for mental health care in schools, one-to-one tuition, early years funding, extended school hours and breakfast clubs, as well as funding to stamp out anti-social behaviour.”
