The Prime Minister on economic inactivity

In his speech on the deficit today, David Cameron has repeated the Coalition’s favourite canard about the labour market: that economic inactivity has ballooned, and this reveals the failure of the Labour government.

In fact, as I show in this piece on Liberal Conspiracy today, the most remarkable change was the huge increase in the number of young people who are counted as economically inactive because they are students – which I’m more inclined to regard as a success than a failure.
