Cuts Watch #117: Local cuts
Evidence continues to build on the impacts of cuts locally. In Hull, park rangers are facing downward pay reviews due to reductions in their powers to tackle anti-social behaviour. In Pendle, Lancashire, leisure centre cafes look set to close, and cuts of 17.5% are being made in local regeneration budgets. In Liverpool, the local council estimate that the first round of spending cuts have already cost 1000 jobs – and that job losses in the entire city region may be four times that amount. In Bath, an estimated 300 council jobs are at risk and in Staffordshire a £65 million Shuttle Bus scheme has been scrapped.
