Ed Miliband and a National Care Service
Community Care reports that new Labour leader Ed Miliband supports the creation of a National Care Service, free at point of need for older and disabled people, as advocated by the TUC. They point out that although this policy was more closely associated with Andy Burnham’s campaign for the leadership, the Labour Party general election manifesto, drafted by Mr Miliband, included a promise to create, by 2015
a comprehensive National Care Service, free at the point of use not just for older people, but all adults with an eligible care need whoever they are, wherever they live and whatever condition leads to them needing care.
