Cuts Watch #277: Free travel for children in Plymouth
The county council in Plymouth is proposing to cut concessionary travel for children and young people in response to central Government grant reductions. The local newspaper, The Herald, reports that this could discourage less well-off youngsters from staying in education, increase carbon emissions by forcing parents to drive, and make some bus routes unviable – but that the proposal will still be put to the Cabinet for approval next week.
